Trade: Mare-Do-Well Fashion Style Custom by Nazegoreng Trade: Mare-Do-Well Fashion Style Custom by Nazegoreng
:icontradesopen: :iconcommissionsopen:

Part of my trade with :iconlykaios-avery:.

Mare-do-well Fashion Style Custom.

:bulletyellow: Made from a Cadence base, hand sculpted with super sculpey, painted with high quality acrylics and sealed with mod podge.

:bulletyellow: I had allot of fun making this custom. When Lykaios asked me to make a Mare-do-well, I knew that it would push my sculpting to the extreme. While she doesn't have a mane or tail, her hat and cape were real challenges. The cape is quite sturdy and supports itself with no internal wiring.

Overall I'm very glad I added the fabric ruffles on her nose and neck. I also filled in the mouth cavity so it appeared to be more of a mask. I think it was definitely the right choice.

I'm really happy with how she turned out. It looks like her cape is blowing in the breeze! Thank goodness the cape and hat turned out sturdy, as I was worried about having to post her. After handling her now, no worries!

I really hope her new owner loves her as much as I do. I will be sad to see her go.

Okay, I only now noticed how insanely awesome this is! I mean, the overall look great and all, but the insane awesomeness lies in the details for me. Because seriously, that Hat, that Cape, that Scarf, and most of all, those insane wrinkles!!

Yeah, call me odd, but the wrinkles are what I love the most :D

Gosh thanks so much :D. The wrinkles are my favourite too!
I was so nervous about putting them in.. what if they hadn't turned out nicely..
But I am so glad that I did now. I filled in the mouth cavity too, so it appears to be a mask.

Thanks again :D

You're very welcome, as always :D

I decided to give sculpting a custom a try myself, so I went and bought a couple of figures. They are smaller than yours, because I'm going to just test how the process goes. But it was awfully hard to get their heads off! Also, apparently the cleaning liquid I have is not strong enough, since I can't get their eyes and markings off. They just smudge around. (Also, getting the hair from the head was just ARGH).

Makes me appreciate your work all the more!

I went through the exact same thing when I started customising, people on the internet make it look so easy! Getting the hair out was an absolute pain before I became experienced at it. I think the first head I took the hair out of took me over 4 hours.. Now I can do it in about 10-15 minutes.

I let the head soak in boiling hot water for a few minutes. Then get it out, dry it so I don't burn my hands, and go berserk with a screwdriver, breaking up the glue on the inside. It's amazing how much hair you can remove just hacking at it with a long screwdriver. Put it back in the hot water, and repeat a few times. Once most of the glue is broken, I just get my long, curved tweasers and pull all the hair out. You might need to work at some parts that have lots of glue though.

I use straight acetone to remove the marks, there is a knack to it. It just takes practise :).

Anyway all the best with your custom work! Be sure to link me to your progress :D. If you need any help don't hesitate to ask.

Huh, the hair really is something problematic. I think I need to buy something small enough to get the hair and glue out once they're hacked off. And I think I'll test that boiling thing too.

I found some cheap nail polish remover from the nearby market: worked like a dream! I actually do have some rather good liquid remover/cleaner, but it for some reason didn't work on these. I have isopropyl alcohol for removing BJD-doll face-ups. They can't stand anything with acetone. Acetone would melt the resin they're made of.

And I'll link my stuff when I get my camera back from school. I really didn't think I'd end up doing anything that I'd need it from.

Anyway, do you think it would be a good idea to make artsy Rarity from Sweet and Elite? Because I have a blank Rarity waiting for modifications...

Artsy Rarity is always a beautiful custom to make. I'd say go for it! I've never gotten around to making one.

My upcoming Rarity project is a crystal Rarity. She is going to kill me XD.

She looks absolutely fantastic! I really love the mask fabric wrinkles that you decided to put in. It's a really nice touch.

Does she still have her full ears? I can see the curve of the base, but I thought you going to have to cut them off to make the hat fit (as almost gruesome as that may sound).

I'm so so thrilled you love her! I was nervous about putting the fabric wrinkles in when I was sculpting, but it looks like they are a success :D. I also filled in her mouth cavity so it appears more mask-like.

Only the tips of her ears are cut off, so they do appear to go into the hat. I wasn't able to save them though :P. I can't wait to see Rainbow and Daring when they are done, or any progress shots once you start. I know your life is hectic right now :p.

That'd be a bit of a finny sight. A random pair of pony ear tips.

I still can't get over how gorgeous she looks. Filling in the mouth cavity is an excellent idea that I didn't even think of. And I imagine it does look better as it is with half of the ears rather than taking them off altogether.

I do have allot of random pony parts lying around. Slightly creepy..
Some ears, a bunch of wings, some legs etc. I keep them incase I need them later for some unusual project.

I'm so thrilled you love her as much as you do. I can't wait to send your ponies off :D.

My room's like that when I'm in the middle of sewing. My brother walked in once to see a bunch of ponies with their heads on the ground beside them, and wings in a pile. He said something like "...I feel like they're watching me..."

Haha I know that feeling. I have people come over while I'm prepping the ponies, seeing me rip their heads off and put screwdrivers inside their heads to pull the hair out. They must think I'm a bit bonkers. Even I found it a little bizzare to see at first. They look very awkward with no hair or eyes. Or head on for that matter.

One of my friends wanted to come over and make one with me. She bought a Pinkie pie and by the time she had to rip her head off/mutilate her she couldn't do it. She still has her at home lol.

Aww, poor thing. I'm guessing she's the type who couldn't hurt a fly?

I've considered doing something really dark to freak out my friends by making myself a Cupcakes Pinkie and having her stand on a small platform over all the 'mutilated' ponies. Still pondering about that, though I probably will do it when I have time.
