Trade: Vinyl Scratch Fashion Style Custom by Nazegoreng Trade: Vinyl Scratch Fashion Style Custom by Nazegoreng
:icontradesopen: :iconcommissionsopen:

Part of my trade with :iconlykaios-avery:.

Vinyl Scratch Fashion Style Custom.

:bulletyellow: Made from a Shining Armour base, hand sculpted with super sculpey, painted with high quality acrylics and sealed with mod podge. Glasses and headphones are currently in the making. If anyone has tips on how to make removable glasses that fit let me know.

:bulletyellow: I had allot of fun making this Vinyl. I think she is a clear improvement from my first. Her hair is bigger and better, I've pretty much perfected pony baking, and she is made from a much more appropriate base (shining armour custom I could kiss you!!).

I really hope her new owner loves her as much as I do. I will be sad to see her go.

Do you do any sanding on your pieces before you paint them? I've always wondered just how sculpty sands...

Yes I do do some sanding. Just to get any majorly rough areas smooth that I can see. I don't go overboard, but mostly where the rivets are on the tails/manes.

For the glasses, I've seen people put wax paper over the face of the pony and sculpt the glasses onto that. Once it's done baking, just pop them off and paint them :) If they won't stay on, magnets are a great idea too. You can mount one to the inside of the pony and then sculpt around one for the glasses.

Well, i want to know how to sculpt hair, but in this case, Fluttershy's. Is there any special way or clay that i need to do or have?

As far as materials go, you have your base, some wire, and Super Sculpey if you can afford it. It's really worth it if you want top quality customs. Regular sculpey is fine too :).

Before you do anything, get lots of references of fluttershys hair. From the front, sides, back. Even look at how other people have sculpted it. What you are doing is transferring it into a 3d shape. I know allot of ponies hair that looks fine in the show, but isn't really logical for sculpting. You have to make your best interpretation of it.

Once you know your general shapes and proportions, I'd start by making the armature for the tail. You want to twist it, and stick it through the tail hole, to give the clay something to grab onto. Now you can start sculpting.

I actually sculpt by first blocking out the rough shapes, then carving them away with an x-acto knife to get the shape. For fluttershy's mane, I would probably roll the clay out to the thickness you want, and cut the shape of her hair out flat before attaching it. Then smooth it out. I also carve out where the lines would be with any simple tool I can find.

Really it's all about referencing what her hair actually looks like. Get the basic shapes in first, and refine it from there.

Good luck :)
